Where the Chemistry Happens…

BASF Mining Solutions in North America is a growth business focused on delivering products and solutions to customers in the mineral processing industry.

One of the key pillars of our strategic growth over the next several years is the development of the Rheomax® ETD and Rheomatrix® business, particularly for the oilsands and phosphate industries. Rheomax® ETD is an Enhanced Tailings Disposal technology. Rheomatrix® is a step change in technology for use in high shear and high clay tailings environments. As such, the individual in this position should be familiar with tailings management and solid liquid separation techniques, as they will be required accelerate the identification and development of valid opportunities for these technologies.

The position may also be required to support development and product launch activities in other areas of mineral processing such as material handling and selective flotation.

Duties will center on the development of optimal chemical and process solutions for BASF’s Mining Solutions’ customers, but will also include making internal and external technical presentations, assisting with field trials, and planning and performing laboratory testing.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Develop and initiate application improvements to optimize products and process solutions for the global mining industry, especially related to solid liquid separation and tailings management technologies.
- Technical and operational support for Rheomax®, Rheomatrix®, and other mineral processing business development activities in North America.
- Technical support entails but it not limited to the following:
- Designing, planning and conducting test work, pilot trials and field trials.
- Preparing and delivering reports and presentations for customers and key industry contacts during customer meetings and at industry conferences.
- Preparing and giving technical presentations to customers in support of sales.
- Provide training to both internal and external personnel in Rheomax®, Rheomatrix®, and other mineral processing technologies.
- Approximately 20% travel within the region is expected in support of customer’s technical needs. International travel outside of the North American region may also be required.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Mining & Metallurgy, or another related discipline; advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience working in the mineral processing industry.
- Process knowledge, including solid liquid separation, and tailings management technologies.
- Strong work planning, data interpretation and report writing and competent computer skills. (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to lead internal and external technical discussions.
- Ensures personal compliance with relevant OH&S legislation, customer specific EHS requirements and BASF Responsible Care®
- Experience working in a laboratory environment desired.
- Strong interpersonal and good communication skills.
- Knowledge of acrylic polymer chemistry as it relates to water soluble polymers used for solid liquid separation preferred.
- A self-motivated, customer-focused and resourceful individual representing BASF in an experienced and professional manner.
