Where the Chemistry Happens…

BASF is seeking candidates for an Environment, Health and Safety Specialist position for the Ohio, Michigan, and Canada Hub to partner with our manufacturing and technical communities.

The Environment, Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting and facilitating the implementation of environment, health and safety programs designed to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements (local, provincial, federal) for the Windsor, ON plant. Occasional support of other locations within the hub may also be required. The selected individual will have expertise in occupational health, safety and emergency response. Additional experience in Environmental Compliance and Process Safety is desirable. This position reports to the Environment Health & Safety (EHS) Team Leader for BASF Canada.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational health, safety and environmental compliance at the assigned location.
- Facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools and successfully demonstrated practices within the ECN (Coatings) Business Group, the Ohio-Michigan-Canada Hub, and the entire EHS Community.
- Provide strategic leadership and work with management on identified EHS issues/recommendations/opportunities to foster continuous improvement of EHS culture and performance.
- Ensure all EHS program elements are developed under the principles of Operations Line Management Accountability for EHS.
- Assist sites with implementation of corporate standardized EHS policies and procedures including but not limited to Safe Work Permits, Job Safety Analysis, Management of Change, Incident/Accident investigation, ergonomics, WHIMIS.
- Participate in capital project reviews consistent with the level of environmental, industrial hygiene and safety expertise needed.
- Support emergency response activities through the development of required drills and coordination of annual training.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or College Diploma with 5 years of demonstrated EHS experience in a manufacturing environment OR a minimum of 7 years of work experience in a similar EHS role in a manufacturing environment
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification is preferred
- Experience in Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene is required
- Experience in chemical manufacturing is preferred
- Proven ability to interact with provincial and federal regulatory agencies
- Strong computer skills - MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
- Must be a self-starter and demonstrate a strong sense of initiative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Strong collaboration, leadership, teamwork, interpersonal relations, customer focus, influencing/impact skills are required
