Laboratory Technician – Wyandotte, Michigan – (1800045)

The Laboratory Technician position has primary responsibility of carrying out product development and research by:
- Synthesizing UV curable oligomers and polymers for new product development and research
- Optimize various synthetic processes
- Conduct analytical testing, including chemical and physical characterization of polymeric materials
- Prepare, package and ship samples for customer evaluation

Primary responsibility for this position is to safely conduct new product development and applications experiments under the direction of the scientists in the team. Responsibilities will include:
- Safely synthesize new polymer products.
- Characterize the polymers, prepare final ink and coating formulations, perform applications tests.
- Document all work in the form of laboratory reports and in the laboratory notebook.
- Set up, calibrate, operate and maintain various pieces of laboratory and test equipment
- Set up and maintain a safe, efficient laboratory work place.
- Assist in various activities required for efficient laboratory operation and sample generation
- Prepare, label, package and ship customer samples.
- Conduct routine data analysis
- Support scale-up of processes to manufacturing and commercialization when appropriate
- Maintain raw material storage and inventory
- Write, or contribute to project updates and technical reports
- Generate new ideas that result in new project opportunities, better laboratory and test methods or more efficient processes.
- Assist in pilot plant scale up as necessary

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

Basic Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in a scientific field
- 1 Years of experience in a laboratory setting operating laboratory equipment
- 1 Year of chemistry experience
- 1 year proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and email

Preferred Qualifications:
- BSc in Chemistry, Polymer Science or related field
- 1 year small molecule or polymer synthesis
