Where the Chemistry Happens…

BASF Performance Materials North America is seeking a Market Segment anager (MSM) for its medical and filtration market. BASF Performance Materials is a supplier of engineering thermoplastics, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and polyurethane systems to the device and equipment manufacturers in medical market.

This role will lead the strategic development and profitable growth of the segment through the development and implementation of medical and filtration segment strategies. The development of the business strategy for this segment requires knowledge of thermoplastic and polyurethane materials, and how these materials fit in the medical device and medical equipment markets. Understanding of the value chain from raw materials, device design, and engineering, molders, and device OEMs is critical for success in the role. In addition, familiarity with material testing and certification and manufacturing process for medical materials is required.

Through a deep understanding of the market, market trends. and unmet needs, the MSM will identify, prioritize and lead the growth of attractive sub-segments and applications. You will lead and manage the innovation pipeline of new performance materials to meet strategic goals of the segment. The positioning of products and services that result in achieving the highest market value are important deliverables.

The role also requires strong coordination with the internal sales, technical development, and product management teams. In addition, you must be able to work with colleagues in Europe and Asia to coordinate a cohesive global strategy and develop, share and translate opportunities.

The MSM will network within the industry and across the value chain to execute segment strategies and reinforce BASF brand.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Develop and implement market strategy for the Medical & Filtration segment for engineering thermoplastics, TPU, and polyurethane systems.
- Build and execute a marketing plan to achieve mid- and long-term strategic goals for the segment.
- Identify key market needs for new thermoplastic or polyurethane products, applications, and/or services.
- Develop unique value propositions for market sub-segments and products.
- Conduct market segmentations and prioritize customer growth opportunities to focus BASF’s sales, product development, and research resources.
- Monitor segment profitability and develop strategies to improve sustainability and growth.
- Coordinate segment strategies with global colleagues to ensure consistent pricing and positioning with global customers.
- Effectively communicate the plan throughout the organization to drive engagement and support.
- Regularly monitor and report status of segment strategy implementation according to defined KPIs.
- Maintain segment technology roadmap and growth pipeline.
- Initiate new product innovation projects within segment to secure growth and provide on-going prioritization of opportunities.
- Identify new market innovation opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with key target customers and OEM’s to support business activities in conjunction with market development and sales representatives.
- Build and provide supporting sales tools (e.g., new product launch packages, presentations, brochures).
- Develop and maintain industry and segment knowledge, and track emerging trends.
- Attend/exhibit/present at key conferences.
- Cultivate key industry relationships.
- Lead new product and/or application launches.
- Contribute as a core member of the Global Medical and Filtration segment team.
- Develop marketing and communication plans that support segment strategy.
- Generate internal and external communications (e.g., press releases, brochures, product/application profiles, Web/App content, Social Media).

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering or a similar technical discipline; a degree in other disciplines with proven marketing experience in products of a similar technical complexity will be considered.
- Proven experience in developing and executing marketing and strategic plans.
- A minimum of 7 years of commercial experience in marketing, sales, or product management.
- Familiarity with engineering plastics and/or polyurethanes strongly preferred.
- Marketing experience in engineering thermoplastics, TPU. or polyurethane systems for the medical industry desired.
- Must possess high degree of leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to influence various functional groups to achieve goals.
- Excellent prioritization and project management skills.
- Persuasive presentation development and delivery skills (internal and external)
- Ability to analyze complex business systems and value chains using information from a variety of sources.
