We are seeking a Process Development Research Engineer to work out of our Wyandotte, MI facility.

Process Development Research Engineer (1801169) – Wyandotte, MI

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Work with the team to plan and implement equipment modifications and improvements to a variety of pilot reactor systems, particularly those used for polyether and graft polyol developments.
- Lead hazard analyses and safety reviews for new and modified processes.
- Ensure P&IDs and other Engineering drawings are updated and verified as needed.
- Work with and provide leadership to Site Engineering, Maintenance, contractors, and technicians to complete equipment modifications as planned.
- Lead efforts to commission new, modified, and previously idled installations. Verify performance of mechanical and instrumentation equipment.
- Maintain, update, and document programming of a variety of control systems and recipe controlled operations, including Allen Bradley and Opto.
- Write and update SOPs and JSAs and process system operating manuals.
- Develop training materials and present process and procedure training to technicians and other engineers.
- Ensure regulatory compliance is achieved in terms of operating permits, as well as PSM and other governmental regulations. Address action items resulting from reviews and audits.
- Review and analyze data to ensure processes are operating as planned. Troubleshoot and correct equipment issues with support from Site Engineering and Maintenance.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

This development position is an accelerated development experience for candidates who require a cross business and/or cross functional assignment based on their development goals. Candidate should have track record of getting results in first time, diverse and changing conditions and demonstrating higher performance over time. Due to the developmental nature of this role, time in role is between 18-36 months.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with relevant work experience.
- A minimum of 2-years of experience in a chemical process environment in pilot or production plant support; 5 years (or more) of experience is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with chemical processing equipment and ability to apply strong technical skills to troubleshoot equipment or process problems and recommend solutions.
- Working knowledge of process control and related electronic systems. Experience with programming control systems and/or interlock safety systems is a plus.
- Experience with regulatory compliance procedures and issues is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of BASF Process Safety and overall Safety programs and policies; experience with PSM or RMP is a plus.
- Flexibility to work various hours as needed to support experimental trials or equipment startup.
