Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are looking for a technician in the Chemical Analysis Lab of the Urethane Systems Service Group, under the supervision of a Technical Manager.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Review customer requests submitted to the Chemical Analysis Lab
- Determine the appropriate analytical test method to meet customer objectives and consult with Technical Manager when in doubt or when clarification is needed
- Set up glassware equipment to do chemical reactions involving polyurethanes
- Handle flammable and corrosive reagents
- Operate lab equipment such as a GPC, FTIR spectrophotometer, rotary evaporator, centrifuge, viscometer
- Operate and maintain silica gel columns to separate mixtures of polymers used to make polyurethane material
- Write clear lab notes of work performed
- Submit samples to the BASF Corporate Analytical Labs for analysis when necessary
- Review and summarize basic lab reports from BASF Corporate Analytical Labs and follow up when clarification is needed or objectives are not met
- Provide a summary of results in a report to internal customer
- Practice good housekeeping of laboratory

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
- High School Diploma with minimum of 3 years of experience OR Associates degree with a major in a natural science and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or related discipline preferred
- Experience with polyurethane chemistry and technology is preferred.
- Knowledge and skills of separation techniques and viscosity of liquids
- Knowledge of the principles and application of Gel Permeation Chromatography preferred
- Efficient at time management and flexibility to quickly adjust priorities to meet customer/business needs. Has strong problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment consisting of experts in analytical techniques and technical service with a proven track record of managing data to write clear and concise analytical reports to customers
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Office
