Where the Chemistry Happens…

In this role, you will have direct responsibility for leading the Product Stewardship programs for PM Performance Materials, including Engineered Plastics, Specialty PU Systems, and Thermoplastic Polyurethanes in North America. This role is responsible for strategically identifying emerging Product Stewardship/Regulatory issues and opportunities, assessing product and market risks, proactively developing risk management measures and product strategies for the assigned portfolio and business segments, and providing Product Stewardship/Regulatory support for customers. You will routinely interface with Business Unit Leadership, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, R&D, Technical, EHS, and Legal in the region, as well as with global counterparts internally, and externally with customers, trade associations, and/or regulators. Product Stewardship is part of the EHS Service Platform and is directly aligned with the Regional and Global Business Units in North America.

Senior Product Stewardship Specialist (1801585) – Wyandotte, MI

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Strategically identify emerging Product Stewardship/Regulatory issues and opportunities, assess product and market risks, and proactively develop risk management measures and product strategies for assigned portfolio and business segments.
- Provide strategic direction on EHS product-related issues and opportunities to senior business leadership on a routine basis, and more formally though the Strategic EHS Forecast documentation under the BASF Responsible Care Management System®.
- Lead targeted advocacy efforts related to product and business issues, including representing BASF externally on industry work groups.
- Provide support to customers regarding EHS/Regulatory issues and training for handling and use of products within the PMN portfolio. Coordinate responses to customer product regulatory questions with EHS Product Information Center (EPIC).
- Determine and assess the impacts of product changes and regulatory requirements on business unit products, markets, and customers and actively manages regulatory issues to resolution.
- Lead the development and implementation of Stewardship tools, programs, and management systems, including implementation of BASF Product Stewardship Directive for business unit, and product stewardship related activities under the BASF Responsible Care Management System®.
- Applies expertise and regulatory knowledge to promote sustainable business opportunities

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Science (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Industrial Health, Toxicology) or Engineering discipline; advanced degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CIH) is highly desirable.
- Progressive work experience and advance knowledge in the areas of Product Stewardship, Regulatory, EH&S, or related business/commercial/marketing.
- Knowledge of regional EHS/Product regulations and/or knowledge of business unit product portfolio, markets, and industries. Global regulation knowledge (e.g., REACh) a plus.
- Must communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization, with the ability to translate regulatory/technical information clearly and concisely to business leadership, and the ability to represent BASF externally with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong skills related to development and/or use of computer-based tools for product risk assessment.
- Experience developing and managing projects.
- Strong skills related to leadership, teamwork, interpersonal relations, customer focus, work management, and results-orientation.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and within a virtual and matrix organization.
